Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. You have to try the Torta De Milanesa (beef), it's honestly the best!!!!

Came on a slow Tuesday night. Service was not good. It took over 45 minutes for well done meat that we wanted medium rare. The steak was good but the service was not. Will not come back again.

One of my favorite places to stop for sandwiches on the way home. Lomito and Milanesa Especial, Argentina style. Try their Empanadas and the triple Miga sandwiches. Olive and egg is the best Miga. Be sure to asked for the chimichurra sauce to go. BTW, the fries are the skinny style and are always fresh and crisp.

I always hope that restaurants that have coupons on restaurant.com are a hidden gem. The restaurant is in an obscure location; therefore, lacking traffic. However, another restaurant.com failure. Okay..failure sounds really harsh so put in another synonym. I really like the decor and openness of the restaurant. I found it really cute that it is a casual dining restaurant but they had all the table decked out. On the receipt: Quilmes (Argentinian beer) $4.25 Caprese Spaguetti A Modo Tuo (in pink sauce) The sauce did not taste like anything and the pasta was a little undercook Ravioli di Bue $20.95 the mushroom sauce was super creamy and delicious. But the filet mignon filling was super dry and waste of that cut of meat. But 20 bucks for 6 undercooked raviolis??? Total came out to be a little over $50 but w. the coupon it was around $30 bucks but at the point I still felt a little ripped off. Overall, this place is not recommended by me unless you have the restaurant.com coupon that could be used next door at their grocery store/bar/deli/sandwich shop.

I've only been to the deli side and it's fantastic! Their empanadas are so yummy we order them as appetizers for parties. And let's not even start with the garlic fries (I love fries and these are one of my faves). The food they serve is fresh and tasty. Service is always great!

Waitress was sweet, but way to overloaded! Under staffed is putting it mildly! We arrived at 6:30 and waited at least 45 min. For dinner to be served. Owner or Mgr. walked by our table multiple times without a glance! Food was ok not worth the wait...had to ask for more bread menu was big & confusing. It was a special occasion which we told the hostess..it was ignored and we were not offered dessert until after we asked for the bill. Kinda disappointing....

Excellent food and service. One of my favorite places to eat and enjoy a relaxing meal. Dessert was wnderfull, I had the filet mignon and it was perfect. Linda had the halibut and it really good (I sampled it) Try this place you will love it

Found a little Argentinian gem in our neighborhood! Though there were live musicians, they seemed to be more interested in chatting than playing. The food is quite good and made with fresh ingredients. We had clams for appetizer, shared a caprese salad, and she ordered the filet mignon while I had the gnocchi with Gorgonzola. The clams, or vongole were well made, not too oily or salty and tasted fresh. However the portion was a bit small for sharing. No deduction here because I didn't ask about the portion before I ordered. Though I didn't ask, I'm pretty sure the mozzarella on the Caprese was freshly made. It tasted light, bright and creamy. I could have eaten a bunch more. The wife ordered her steak medium which in my opinion killed the flavor so I can't say how well it was seasoned or prepared. However the meat was covered in a heavy mushroom sauce which would ruin it no matter how it was cooked. (lost a star here). My gnocchi was fresh made in-house and a bit salty. However my palate is overly sensitive to salt and the wife said it was not salty. Take that with a 'grain of salt' considering it came from a woman who ordered filet mignon medium :-) Regardless I could taste the potatoes in each morsel and enjoyed it with a tasty Argentinian sausage on the side as a protein. Don't put parmasean on the gnocchi - it will overcome the subtle taste. For dessert we had spumoni ice cream. Pretty good but I think it was not home made. Overall the experience was very good and I can definitely see us coming back here regularly. By the way, on Sunday nights they have a Tango instructor at 5:30pm. That should liven up the spirits and invoke the appetite.

ITALIAN FOOD OH MY!!! I love Italian like no other. Food here is good & great spices, pastas & more. This time I just went in to pick up Lunch for a co-worker & I. I am not 21 yet but I will definitely be hitting this spot again to try out the wines along with my tastey food =]

The hostess was not welcoming...asked if we had a reservation & when I asked if we needed one, she said that it would be better if we did...it was early & there less than 10 people in the restaurant. Only one of several booths was being used, but they refused to give us one saying they were for people with reservations...all these booths remained unused the entire time we were there. The food was just OK & the service was mediocre. My husband's skirt steak was way better than my veal scaloppini marsala. Desserts were unremarkable & the coffee was weak. Perhaps it is good Argentinian food, but there are better Italian restaurants. Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere felt more stuffy than classy...and for that reason, our family probably won't be back.

  • Sara S.

Delicious food and great service. Perfect combination. The empenadas were large and yummy. We tried the beef, chicken and spinach. The chicken were my favorite, the spinach were the hubby's favorite. The pasta was perfect. The noodles were the right kind of al dente to hold up to the super rich four cheese sauce. The flat iron steak was cooked well and paired with a nice, fresh chimichuri. The rosemary potatoes were good too (though by looking at other dishes go past the shoe string fries might have been better and the salad looked great). I can't wait to go back and try different things on the menu. The argentian food selection is enticing and we will try the meat platter for sure. The italian food selection was ALL delicious sounding and if my formagi quatro is any indication, it is perfection.

Had a very tasty dinner. The empanadas were light and had lots of meat. The pasta dishes had lots of flavor. The shrimp dish had many large pieces. The staff was friendly and attentive. The Argentine wine selection was very large.

We came here on a busy Friday night. We ordered Manicotti, Salmon, and a personal cheese pizza. The food was good, service was slow and did slip up on minor things, but was so nice the whole time. All prices on food and wine were fairly priced and is a huge plus. On the weekends they have a live performer and then salsa music where people can go dance on the dance floor. It was VERY loud. We were this short of yelling across our booth our entire dinner, and our booth was in the farthest corner from the singer. All in all, we had a very pleasant time and we will be coming back.

  • Cristabella C.

***** Great food, generous servings, moderate pricing. ***** Good service, fast serving, everything is paced appropriately. **** Ambience needs to worked on. I always eat on the deli side, and I just can't help but think that the ONLY thing this place needs is ambience. It's a great place to take family or friends. I had the Parrilla for the first time. It says that it's for two but it's more like for four! Don't forget to try the empanadas Argentinas. They're pretty good.

  • Steve A.

This was my first time here. Everybody in my party loved their pasta dishes, but I ordered the Vacio (grilled cut of flap meat) and wish I had ordered pasta too. That was the toughest piece of meat I have ever been served. Now, I have made flap meat before, and from my experience it needs a long marinade time and slow cooking to get tender. It was also pretty rare. I had steamed veggies for the side, and they were very bland. So not a good night for me. I will come back to try the pasta dishes, as everybody else finished their plates. We were here on a Friday night, and they had some live music, and people were dancing.

Not only have I experienced better, I've made better. I've eaten at Villa Roma many times in the last 20 years. The cannoli was very good because I believe they get the filling from Ferrara's in NY. The Eggplant Salad appetizer was very good. Others at our table seem to enjoy their scampi, sweet breds, and I was told that the sauteed calamri was very, very good and very tender. Their chimicurri sauce was weak (they use lemon instead of red wine vinegar) and the Rib Eye was thin. Tip for Villa Roma...smaller, but thicker Rib Eye would serve you better. Barcelona On The Go food truck has a better Chimicurri steak and fries for a third of the price. Try their deli next door. That place is usually crowded and people seem to have more fun (especially when the Argentine soccer team is playing). Pick up some Ferrara's Cannoli filling from the freezer section on your way out ($10). They have cannoli shells too, but are sometimes out. If they are out of cannoli shells, get the mini or regular size shells from Claro's in Tustin.

Very unfriendly staff. I'm from Argentina and embarrassed that this is where I took my boyfriends family to show a part of my country. They should not be allowed to call themselves Argentinean. Server was slow and rude. Extremely disappointed. This was the worst food, service, and ambiance I've had for as long as I can remember. Denny's qualify milanesa and salad, terrible service, they must have been going thru remodeling which they didn't let us know when we called, walls were bare, no music, just seemed like a warehouse with tables and chairs.

Just had the "Entraña" (or "skirt steak") tonight with roasted potatoes and I actually loved it! The flavors were absolutely amazing and I highly recommend this dish. My only problem (hence the 4 stars, not 5) was that most of the steak was cooked "medium" when I ordered "medium rare" ... but no big deal. The flavors and the crispy, salty potatoes more than made up for that problem.

This business has two sides. One is a sit down Italian-Argentine full service restaurant. Good food. The other side is a market cafe. They serve a smaller selection of the same menu. Bigger emphasis on the sandwiches. Super good Flavors and good coffee. This side is more argentine than the other. It works!

I came here and tried their empanadas one day and never stopped coming ever since!! The chicken are my favorite, I believe my son started eating them before anything else in life. They must be accompanied by the chimichurri sauce though, best way to go. Also the matambre with Rusa and salmon dishes are excellent in portion and taste. Great wine selection at the best price too. Customer service is also very very good. I do refer to the market/deli side.. The actual restaurant is more expensive and could work in their service, it's still worth a try!

  • Eli B.

The best Argentinean food around !!! Also the pizzas are probably the best in Orange County too. Go there for dinner and chances are they are going to have live music playing with a dance floor. Also you can have huge groups going to dinner there too. That is very difficult to find in the OC. Also what I really enjoy is that they are not pushing you out of your table to turn it. The Argentine custom is that dinner is a social night too with friends and or family. Its not a run and eat place, which even the high end restaurants in OC do to you. They need to turn those tables. So if you are looking for an excellent evening out definitely try Villa Roma. If you like a pizza with no sauce and no meat try the fugazzeta pizza and also the Argentinean style pizza. They also have excellent italian pasta dishes if you are not a meat eater. Salads are excellent and so are their fries. They have a small market cafe next door too that is incredible to pick up items to make dinner or asado at home. All in all Villa Roma is a unique find in OC, don't miss it !!!

This is a cute little place to share a bottle of wine ($5 corkage fee) and a sandwich. I only gave four stars instead of five because the waiter had a language barrier and we ordered the steak sandwich and got the steak entree. He also failed to advise us of the corkage fee, so the bottle of wine we thought was $8.95 ended up being $13.95.

I came here during oc restaurant week for the special menu. I have to say, I'll definitely be back. The food was great, especially the empandas! Omg, I think I could live off of them! I loved the atmosphere too. The only problem was that we waited a looong time for each course, I think we ended up getting our entrees more than an hour after we ordered. I don't know what was the deal, but I think the waitress just may have been swamped. The manager came by and we mentioned the wait and our food came right out after that. All in all the good definitely outweighed the bad, and i'll be looking forward to heading back for some more empanadas!

This was my chosen dinner place for my birthday bash. We started with Calamari and Bruschetta. I added Limoncello for the buzz. My cohorts ordered pasta dishes and steak. We were pleased with the selection but a little overwhelmed with the portion sizes. I've been here a handful of times and noticed that Staff is always smiling and friendly. This is not the best Italian place around the area but it's great for a smal group or family get together.

Lunch on Thursday. It wasn't too busy in the Restaurant. My friend and I wanted to try/share a few things. I'm not sure if we were given lunch menus or if they even have lunch menus. We decided to try their Ceasar Salad, a pizza with cheese and onions (can't remember the name of it right now) and the Spaghetti with pesto. All of it was delicious. I loved the dressing on the fresh romaine of the salad. The pizza was addicting. The pesto was garlicky. YUM! For lunch, I think it was a bit overpriced. Sevice was fine and they were very good about refilling our Iced Tea. 4 stars for the food and service. Thank you Villa Roma. I want to bring my family here to try.

Tom and I tried the calamari fritto, entrana (skirt steak) and respective potatoes: french fries for him, roasted potatoes for me. I ordered the entrana medium rare and it was exactly that. Fantastic! I liked the tender skirt steak. The place is very good, a couple of times throughout the dinner I said to Tom, "This is good." I also think you get a lot for your money here. The calamari is very good also, it is served with a marinara sauce and lemon. Our drinks were refilled without our having to ask, we were asked if everything was good and it was. Next time I will try some of the wine, I completely forgot about the wine list and did not look at it. I'm guessing that Argentine Malbec wine would go very well with the food. Now I'm interested in one of these days trying their Sunday brunch mentioned in Francis S's review . That's how I found this restaurant, through Yelp reviews. Thank you Yelpers. The directions in one of the reviews about Villa Roma being behind a 7-11 on La Paz is pretty accurate to me. The only thing is that I am not sure that the attire is casual, as listed on the restaurant profile. That didn't really seem to be the tone of the restaurant or of the customers. That said, we were seated and served just fine in shirts and jeans. Overall, it's a good place.

Isn't Roma supposed to be in Italy? Anyway, we love this place. We have been here about 8 times and we've never ordered anything but the two-person BBQ plate (Parillada por dos). It's very tasty and a great deal. The skirt steak is the best, it's well spiced and marinated, and there's plenty of it. Only complaint is that the music is ridiculously loud on weekends, but that's a common problem, we'll tough it out for the great food.

  • Tanya D.

The BEST restaurant in the area, hands down! I've been to the deli a couple of times, and the restaurant three or four times. Sadly I have quit eating red meat so I have not tried what Argentina is famous for here at Villa Roma, but from the Milanesa to Chicken Marsala, empanadas and the desserts, everything tastes great. The service is always excellent - very friendly, quick and they're ready to make suggestions ... what more could I ask for? If you haven't had Argentine food, much of it stems from Italy, which is why this place is Argentine / Italian (don't be confused). But there is plenty of South American wine, even some Italian, great vibes and even music and dancing. It's the kind of establishment that doesn't try hard because it doesn't need to. Nuff said.

Skirt steak sandwich, linguini in clam sauce, empenadas (chicken, spinach, and beef), meat "girll", chimichurri sauce, pancetta sandwich, house red wine...just to name a few... I haven't had anything there that I could criticize. Everything is delicious. I highly recommend this place. Prices are amazing, service is easy going and good. Staff are kind, welcoming and appreciative.

This Argentine-Italian deli market is worthy of a stopover off the 5 freeway. My milanesa pollo sandwich on a fat baguette was served with mayo lettuce tomato, and a side of garlicky olives. Soooo good. My husband was responsible for the Italian side of the meal and had a very fine meatball sandwich. But milanesa pollo was the lunch home run. (My left-over 1/3 sandwich was even better 4 hours later). Always have to have an empanada -- their spinach empanada was tasty -- and the chimichurri was just fine. Add some Brasilian guarana soda and some Peruvian camote chips and the excellent meal for 2 was about $20. This is a MARKET, so you order at the deli and eat at the lunch tables. You can do your shopping here (lots of Argentinean wines!), but if you're just driving through, there's lots of baked pastries to go and the deli does catering and takeout. A formal Villa Roma restaurant is attached if sit-down's your thing.

i would've given them 3.5 stars if i could. just went here on a whim during a business travel trip since it was close to our hotel. the food was a lot better than i thought it would be based on the awning outside. app - carpaccio: delish.. a bit too much cheese on top for me entree - linguine fra diavolo.. YUMMM.. pasta cooked perfect. sauce was great. shrimp cooked perfect. dessert - some pistachio ice cream cake or something ... not what i expected, but it was still yummy to have the 3 different flavors of ice cream my only complaint... i wish they didnt toast the bread. i think it just made it all hard and not that enjoyable. plus - the decor could be improved upon.

The Milanesa sandwich is to die for great hot and filling. The melted cheese combined with the breaded meat grouped with tomato and Lettuce more like a mini salad one bite and you commit to only leaving the crumbs on your plate. Order it with fires, they are skinny and seasoned with parsley and some other hidden ingredient I cannot point my finger on, hummmmmmm

What a great find! If I hadn't spent a lot of money at the Package People I never would have found Via Roma Market & Deli. Amazing homemade Italian and Spanish foods, plus wine from $3.99 a bottle to $100+. I was amazed at how inexpensive it was too! If you don't have time to go to Claros in Tustin, go right down La Paz. There is a restaurant here I'll have to try....

Simply put, my Saturday "go-to." Waitstaff is amazing: treat you like family. The Argentine patrons: passionate about Soccer. Always a match on the numerous televisions. Amazing miga sandwiches: I am addicted to the ham and cheese and the Milanese Chicken. The chicken empanadas, fresh from the oven, offer up flakey crust and moist juicy meat. The beef ones are ground beef, tender, mixed with olives and hard-boiled eggs. Take-out meats fuel our Summer barbecues back home; amazing Italian style cheeses, pastas, and bread also available.

I've been a patron of Villa Roma for quite a number of years; I visited many times at their prior location on El Toro Road and not quite as much in the new location due to needing to be able to dirve home after a meal... I have spent some serious money here. I have only been here for dinner, both for the normal menu and for their specials such as wine dinners. A lot of people don't realize that the cuisine is Argentinean, which is heavily influenced by the Italian emigrants whose heritage comprises nearly 50% of the population. Victor the owner is the real deal. The thing that can really clue you in to the authenticity of the restaurant is the fact that most of the patrons speak Spanish, as do all the wait staff. Overall the food preparation is very good to excellent. I have had a couple of items that didn't exactly turn me on. If you ever have something that is not to your liking SPEAK UP and it will be taken care of right away with no hostility. I do wish that they would do a better job with storing and handling their wines. I've had a couple of bottles, including Opus One, that have had more creepage on the cork and served at higher temperatures than is acceptable. But overall, they have a quite good selection at every price point. The best values are the Chilean and Argentinean wines (big surprise they have them! ;-).

This restaurant is unique as it shares an Argentinian and Italian cusine. It is not cheap but the meats here are cooked on a bbq and have great flavor. The service was exceptional and I highly recommend trying it. They have a good selection of wines and next door is a deli that serves great food at a lower cost. You can also catch a soccer game as that is on all day.

I eat at the deli part several times a month. Their turkey with provolone sandwich is excellent, but even better with the garlic fries. I also like the gnocchi a lot. I've tried almost everything on the menu and always very happy. The employees obviously like their jobs because they're extremely friendly and helpful. Bonus: The prices are very reasonable, servings are large and they support local schools!

Great deals Great, Great, Great meat Good quality Great service Clean Nice decor I'm not a huge carnivore, but this place turns me into one. I usually get their meat platter medium rare on a coal plate and share it with 3 or 4 people. It comes with 2 asado, 2 skirt steak, 2 flank steak (I think?), 2 sweet bred, 2 chorizo, and 1 blood sausage. It is cooked to perfection. And they provide chimichurri which is an olive oil dip with lots of herbs and spices. This platter comes with a side for a little over $30. GREAT deal, right? I got roasted potatoes, but their green salad is better. And I always, always order gorgonzola sauce gnocci. It is to DIE for. I could eat here every week and not get sick of it. Even their bread and butter is good.

Love the Food! Loved the Tango! We had a blast yesterday at this place -- adults and kids! Food: Calamari appetizer - cooked good. Real good marinara for dipping. $11 Skirt steak was delicious. Fries were seasoned with garlic and were good. $17 Wife had fettucine alfredo with chicken and sun dried tomatoes. Really, really good, but grilled chicken would have added better flavor. $17 Daughter had kids portion ravioli (4 medium size ravioli) and son had kids portion penne with butter! Enough food for our 2 and 3 year olds, but $15 was way too much for small kids meals with no drinks. Sodas were $2.25. Place: -- Really liked the decor. Service -- Great service overall, but there was a large party and we had to wait a half hour for our main entrees, which really sucks with kids as you know. Kids got their food quick though. Tango -- They had a keyboard, guitar guy, and singer doing old school tango songs. We all participated and danced a few songs. It was really fun. I would definitely come back.

Easily accessible parking although spots in shopping center are very narrow if you want to avoid door dings. They sell fresh Argentinian and Italian food made to order. You can call ahead and take it to go or sit down for a nice meal and order. It is a simple place; not fancy at all. The fries are excellent with some parsley and just the right amount of salt. The little empanadas are AMAZING and the price can't be beat. You can pretty much just eat three empanadas and a drink and you are all set to go. The meat sandwiches are also very good. They do offer the quality meat that Argentina is known for. In addition to selling freshly made food; they also sell groceries and alcohol. They have all sorts of South American and Italian groceries. I found Peruvian products and even freshly made desserts!!! The wine selection is very impressive. Prices are definitely competitive; priced just right. I look forward to coming to Laguna Hills just to eat at this place. SOOO YUMMY

My husband is from Argentina and he said that the food is just like home! The look and feel is as inviting and warm as is the staff - and the food is Italian with an Argentine twist...delicious! They have a wonderful wine list too - Argentina is known for it's Melbec wine and the restaurant offers many great choices. Next door is a market that sells Argentine products - frozen empanadas that you can take home and bake yourself, yummy pastries (facturas) and a huge meat counter. There is also a little deli inside where you can sit, enjoy a casual meal and watch soccer...it's a great place with a good vibe!

I had to review this place, which is unlike me. I even went a second time just to make sure. This place is a gem, they have dishes in various price ranges, and everything we have had so far has been delicious. We have focused on the mid level stuff like Pizza, Lasagna, Penne Meatball/Sausage, Empanadas, Soup. Service is very good, live music and dancing, restaurant is nice - feels more like a buttoned down shirt would be appropriate BUT the atmosphere is very casual, I have gone both times in casual clothes and it was NOT an issue or did I feel uncomfortable, as others are dressed the same. You simply get better food with respectable portions, similar price than say a Cosmo's, for those that know the area. This is my new favorite restaurant, as much as I would like it to be my secret, it's important that others know so they can stay in business :). Can't wait to eat my left overs in the fridge :) Hope your experience was as good as mine.

I loved this place! My husband and I are Italian and are always looking for a good Italian place. We found it by mistake but we are so glad we did. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing. When we were here there was some live music (one man band kind of thing) and the people that were here were having a great time dancing to it. It was very enjoyable from beginning to end! I recommend this place completely!!

Very simple but chic ambience, with very good food. I also like the fact that they play live music and teach their clients to dance Salsa Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

Solid choice for lunch. I love a good sandwich and this place did not disappoint. They had a good menu, affordable, quick, authentic. And of course, the sandwich was great, cooked well with a good flavor. Make sure to ask for the chimichurri- it's complimentary just not left out anymore. It'll make you plenty messy though! The true sign of a good meal. I've also heard the flan is to die for, but I didn't try it myself.

Tried the Italian menu this time around and it was fantastic! I had the risotto with asparagus, shrimps and scallops in saffron sauce. The risotto's a little wet but the flavor was excellent. Mr. S stuck with the grilled skirt steak from the Argentine menu. It was good but they always have it on the raw side. The med-rare he had turned out pretty red and bloody. Live band and singing... people were doing salsa dancing.. very strange combination but was interesting :)

We ended up here after first going to Roman Cucina around the corner, and finding they had a 40 minute wait. What a mistake that was! The service was so slow that we probably would have been done earlier even with the wait at Roman Cucina. Also the food here just wasn't that good. The pasta was overcooked, and the sauces, while not horrible, were just uninspiring. Even their bread was flavorless and dry (possibly stale?). We started with dinner salads, which were fine except that there was a piece of rotten spinach in mine. When I make a salad at home I pick through the lettuce or spinach to make sure none of the pieces have gone bad, and I expect a restaurant to do the same. The three pasta dishes were gnocchi, linguine with chicken and sun-dried tomatoes, and rigatoni with sausage and meat balls. The gnocchi was just OK. I could have done as well buying a pack of gnocchi and some sauce at Trader Joe's, and had enough for a family for less money than it cost for one meal. The linguine was the worst, it was way overcooked, and the creamy tomato sauce was flavorless. The rigatoni was probably the best of the three, but nothing special. The sausage and meatballs were of middling quality and flavor, and the pasta was slightly over cooked, though nowhere near as bad as the linguine. The worst part was the service. Nearly thirty minutes after we ordered I had to ask where our food was. My seven year old daughter was starving. (Do not bring kids here, because they won't cope well with the wait). They brought out our salads and my daughter's food in less than 1/2 a minute so it must have been plated up, but our waiter was not on top of things. Then again about 15 minutes after we had finished our salads, and my daughter had almost finished her food I had to ask again for our entrees, which took them another 10 minutes to bring out to the table. To make up for the poor service our waiter brought out a free tiramisu, which we took with us since it was so late, but it was really bad too. We should have just left it there.

So, apparently our waiter was shady and didn't give back our change for my birthday meal. That makes $80 divided by $120 ~67% tip. I'm not going back.

We were up here from San Diego last night for a business meeting during the day, and wanted to try someplace new. Well, thankfully we saw all of these great reviews, as we picked Villa Roma and absolutely LOVED our meal! One of the best caprese salads we've ever had - and that's one of our favorites, so we're quite discriminating. Both had delicious entrees. Great bread, with oil and vinegar, of course. And great service - nice, friendly, helpful folks. Highly recommend it! We will definitely be back...

umm... found this on restaurant.com and went to celebrate something with my wifey... and then a couple of weeks there I took a couple people for a biz lunch. I have not tried or seen their pasta.. but the meat is good. the menu is a good deal. the empanadas are authentic (I'm Argentine) i think the 2nd time one of steaks was a bit over.. but overall Great grill master back there. the potatoes are nice, and the house salad delicious. and on the wines... pretty nice list of Argentino wine, good price/quality ratio. I highly recommend!

A friend and I went there for lunch and had a great experience! We went to speak to the manager about holding a future tango/salsa party there. We started off with sampling the 4 different empanadas they had - beef, chicken, spinach, and ham and cheese. They were amazing. Bread is also served. We then ordered 3 meals so we could take leftovers home. We ordered lasagna, skirt steak, and chicken milanesa. Everything was delicious. We then had flan and bread pudding for dessert. The service was great, the manager was very friendly, and this is definitely a place I will be returning to. There is a market and deli next door that serves sandwiches and all the items on the menu. They sell wine and all sorts of food items, I ended up buying frozen empanadas that you can bake yourself. Can't wait to try them. If they are as great as the ones I had in the restaurant, I will be back to fill up my freezer. I also bought little pastries called canoncitos. I definitely recommend this place.

Be careful! There are two places here. The door to the left is to the Market & Deli which has a small cafe. The right door is the restaurant which serves the same things plus others but tacks on $2.00 more for the ambience of a fancier sit-down restaurant. They both share the same kitchen. This place is listed as Argentine and Italian. I had the Argentine Pizza. It was thin crusted, with tomatoes, ham, and provolone cheese. When you lift a slice there are those long noodles of cheese refusing to let go. LOL It cost $11.95 for a 14'' pizza. Again, be careful. The cashier for the Market and the restaurant share the same data base. My bill came to $13.95 plus tax. I asked about this and it turns out the register is programmed for the higher restaurant prices. The cashier needed to get the owner/manager over to type in his code so they could manually price it at $11.95 as it says on the lunch menu for the cafe. The pizza was good, and the waiter brought out a bowl of crushed pepper and a bowl of grated parmesan cheese to add to it. I eyed the hot sandwich plates others had ordered and they looked very good and a good deal. I'll be back to try those out. They also have one of those large expresso machines so the coffee smell in the place is very aromatic. As for the YELPer, Sybril, who said this place stunk, I'm guessing someone was using a lot of parmesan cheese like me. LOL That was the only stinky (cheese) smell I found at this place. LOL

Not a big meat eater but their Shrimp Scampi was delicious. My hubby and our friends shared their carpaccio di manzo for an appetizer and liked it, for the main course they had Parillada Mixta (Traditional Argentine mixed grilled meats: Skirt steak, Flap meat, Short ribs, Chicken, Sweetbread, Argentine sausage, Blood sausage) and they raved about it! It was served sizzling hot and smelled delicious. All 3 of them couldn't finish it - very generous portions. And the wine - wow! I love Argentinian wine!

Spinach Empanadas are absolutely must order items. make sure you smother them in the dipping sauce. Unreal. 11 out of 10 good. Super mellow vibe in there. This is one of my favorite places in all Orange County.

We had arrived early on Sat. night because we knew this place gets pretty crowded during weekends. It was my first time here but others in our dinner party come here all the time. We started with the crispy calamari and the beef tongue (cooked). Both were pretty good. Nothing awesome or spectacular, but good appetizers nonetheless. For dinner, we ordered the meat sampler dinner for two with beef short rib, sweet breds, skirt steak, blood sausage, regular sausage. The beef short rib is always a great cut. It's cut sideways, so it's got the three small bones up top. I love this cut and it's absolutely tasty how thick and juicy it was. I really liked it. The sweet breds are really tasty too. Everything else was YUCK. The blood sausage was just NOT tasty. Perhaps it was a matter of personal preference, but after I cut into the casing the gooey blood stuffing just ooozed out, which was NOT what I had in mind. I eat blood in Chinese food and I have always enjoyed it, but boy was this not appetizing at all. The skirt steak was really mediocre. The regular sausage was way too salty and peppery. Our friend ordered halibut and she really enjoyed it. Another friend ordered the filet and she really like her steak too. I was just disappointed at the two sausages and the two steaks aside from the short rib. This place is ok. I am just not sure it would be a place I'd "crave" and wanna go back. Either way, it was a great experience and the price is alright. The funny thing is that this place has a one-man-band and it's kinda funny mixed with the commotion of diners.

Awesome steaks... I saw the review in the OC Weekly, and figured I should check it out. Entran'a = AWESOMELY GREAT SKIRT STEAK! Vacio = Really tender, flap meat. The roasted potatos are Delish, the Malbec selection (seeing as how I hardly ever see Malbec) is pretty decent for by the glass, and the atmosphere is pretty good. And the prices - dinner for 2 with a glass of wine, for $45. I'll take that. Come here.

Been here so many times I can't even count. I always order the entrana, skirt steak, it is amazing everytime. That what I love about them consistency. The service is always great, and there is nothing better than watching some tango dancers and eating a great meal. It's the perfet place to come on a lazy sunday and just enjoy. You have to try this place.

I love Villa Roma Restaurant. The food is outstanding. The service is really good. The live music on Friday and Saturday make a great ambient. Dancing is fun at the restaurant. Also for some specialty, Sunday's Tango make this place an authentic Argentinian place. When it comes to desserts, choices are too many. Well done! Ana Gallina

This place was GREAT! The service was wonderful and the food was fabulous. My husband and Mother in Law shared the una parrillada de asado (Argentine BBQ). When they say its for 2, its more like 3 or 4. The amount of meat was insane, but for them being Argentine they were in heaven. I ordered the Rib eye and it was cooked to perfection. We ordered Matambre as an appetizer and again it was great! The only complaint about the matambre was they cut it too thin. I love matambre so I really wish they made the pieces a little thicker. The Chimichurri was very very good. We even bought some at the market next door. They make it fresh. Lastly we ordered 3 different deserts. Flan con Leche. You can tell it was homemade. Non of that box crap that resembles jello more than flan. The kids had chocolate moose and it was devoured in about 1 minuets so that explains how good it was. Lastly I had crepes filled with Dulce de leche and sprinkled with rum. OMG!!! They were unbelievable!! The market next door was very good. Lots if Argentine things you can't find in a normal market. We bought some frozen empanadas... can't wait to try them. There are lots of Argentine people here which is fun to talk with them. I highly recommend this place especially if you are Argentine and want a taste of home and we will definitely be back. It's not the cheapest place around so I would say its a place for celebrations. Oh yeah you can also order food in the market/deli. It's very very casual so for a very informal quick bite or if your kids don't want to sit down this is a great option.

A great restaurant, fantastic food and a truly neighborhood gem. The best service one can expect. The only negative thing one can say about this place is that they don't have any Peruvian dishes on the menu.

We've been looking for an Italian restaurant. I was interested since the menu looked like somebody created it rather than copying it from all the other Italian places. We went on a Wednesday and there were expectedly quite a few empty tables. The staff were friendly but really pushing their halibut special ($32). Portions were BIG, my bowl of minestrone was about a foot across and couldn't have tasted better. Veal parmesean was very good. My wife's seafood risotto tasted perfect, big shrimp and scallops but the rice was a tad dry. Another table ordered the carpaccio which looked good and the guy scarfed it down. Would like to try much more of the menu next time.

This review for the market-deli. Love love love going to Villa Roma deli side on the weekends during the day to have some empanadas, espresso, milanesa, etc. all while watching some argentine & spanish futbol. Listening to argentines & actually all sorts of latins speak spanish really feels special. Going here is definitely a treat, I get giddy on the way in the car. The service is wonderful; friendly, personable, polite and helpful. Food is authentic and really good. Great argentine wine selection too for the go!

My steak was pretty good but not as good as my husbands. Maybe I should order the steak medium rare next time but I don't like too much blood visible on my meats. They had live music and my daughter loved to go up and dance with the others so that was nice. I'll go again and maybe try a different dish but everybody else at my table really liked their steaks.

I've been here 2 times now and both experiences have been really good. The first time I went there with my brother and had the Argentinian BBQ Sampler. It had the skirt steak, sausages, flap steak, and a few other items off the BBQ. Overall the food was pretty good, but the thing I remembered the most was how juicy and flavorful the skirt steak was. So naturally, when I finally went back there again after about 1-2 years I ordered the skirt steak again, but I got the entree this time which comes with a side (salad, fries, or roasted potatoes). The steak comes with a sauce that I think is called Chimichurri (?) that tasted garlicky and was a great accompaniment to the meat. It must be good because even my wife, who's not really a meat person, really enjoyed the skirt steak though she thought it was a little more fatty than she wanted. I personally love fatty meats (my favorite is probably ribeye). Portion size was more than adequate and price was reasonable. As a side note, I think they have live entertainment in the evenings and an open dance floor. Both times I was there I remembered seeing several couples dancing (ballroom/latin styles). Music was decent and not so loud that you can't enjoy a nice evening with a date or a group.

Being South American, I really enjoy this restaurant. It's a mix of Argentinian and Italian food-- offering something for everyone. It has great atmosphere and on weekends they have live music-- you'll see most of the guests are up there dancing. I've been there with friends and family many times and the food is delicious, the service is very good as well. The empanadas are yummy however, be careful when ordering because some of their cuts of red meat can be a bit tough.

This is a great place, with well known dishes as well as some surprises that are worth a try. I highly recommend the ensalada rusa con jamon crudo, it is delicious. The pastas are really good and fresh. The risotto is good but a little too creamy for my taste. The parrilla for two is off the charts good. Pair the parrilla with one of their great wines and you will have a great meal. Don't forget to sample the empanas and their panqueques for dessert.

Get the entrana. My brother and I got the sampler meat dish (forgot the name of it) a while back but my brother remembered that the skirt steak was by far the best meat. So, take my word and get the entrana if you want some good Argentinian steak.

I came here with my family for our Christmas Eve dinner. Having studied in Argentina two summers ago, my mom was really excited to find an Italian-Argentine restaurant and wanted to bring us all here. Because of the heavy Italian influence in Argentina, it's not surprising that they combined the two cuisines for this restaurant. Most of it is Italian, but you have to keep in mind that this is what Argentines eat anyway. The more Argentine food is the parilla meats and the empanadas (YUM!). The mom/sister shared a parilla for two, dad got some steak and brother got some filet mignon. I opted for the milanesa napolitana to remind myself of my host mom's delicious cooking. Overall, the food was all really good. The service really not that bad at all. One of the best parts of this place is that they have a huge list of Malbec wine choices, woohoo!. The only thing I wished was a bit different was that they put too much sauce on the milanesa napolitana. It was still tasty though! All the empanadas are good, and we all enjoyed the appetizer sampler: calamari, roasted red peppers, mozzarella/tomato/basil, olives, and tasty shrimp (that was the day's special). I heard a lot of Spanish-speaking families there, and many of them looked Argentine to me. Seems like this place is a keeper!

Entraña (which is grilled skirt steak) is delicious. When I like something, I just stick with it for a while. I have here twice and I had the same thing. I will try something different next time because they do have other good looking items.

Am a regular for Sunday brunch ($21.95 all you can eat, with pasta, Argentine asado etc...a great value)... The vibe of this place is totally Buenos Aires, especially in the adjacent market, where they make wonderful Argentine sandwiches and the tables are full of expatriates sipping espresso with their meals...and watching Argentine futbol (soccer on the TV)... Italian entrees are also fantastic and probably more authentic than the typical Italian/American restaurant... Highly recommend-rumor has it that a 2nd location is on the way in Laguna Beach...

Funny as to the prior comment. I would not dare to comment on asian food as I have no clue. There was massive inmigration from Italy to Argentina at the beginning of the last century, thus italian food is quite common, argentinian style, I should add. My wife ordered a lasagna which was excellent, I ordered a veal marsala. I was not bad but it was not the real thing either, they put some champignones that were out of place. We drunk a couple of Terrazas Malbec, and had crepes for desert, with dulce de leche (milk caramel) whipped cream and chocolate. A pleasent experience, overall.

We ate there once and the food was excellent. We were looking for a neighborhood restaurant and made reservations to host friends for an intimate dinner - but were never told that this Friday night was a special event wine tasting evening for OTHERS (not us) and that the restaurant was almost completely sold out. Total wildness, they seated us late, our service was pitiful, and the food average. We were embarrassed as hosts and will never go back.

Great Argentinian market and deli ! I purchased some sliced meats, cheeses, their pizza dough (which is available on request and quite good), some of the amazing house-made alfajores (Argentine cookies made with dulce de leche - so good!). Also some biscuit-type rolls that I just had to have after the owner very kindly gave me a free sample. Oh and they also have a nice selection of Argentine wines - not just full-bodied malbecs and cabs but also some very good and well-priced roses, always a great choice for a hot summer afternoon/evening, to go with some nice grilled foods.

Wow! My husband and I were sooo incredibly impressed by this place, we are just so ticked that there are so many great food places around where we live and this is definitely no exception! It is a leisurely restaurant, they surely don't rush you out. We got in at close to 6 and there was no wait, we were seated right away. This is our first time at an Argentinean restaurant, but we got mostly got Italian food. 1- Started off with a spinach and a chicken empanada. Both very tasty! Very hot, almost burnt our tongues and ruined our palates for the evening. 2- Husband got a B52 from the bar, it was made differently than what he's used to, given in a martini glass instead of in a little shot, but he thoroughly enjoyed it. 3- Cannelloni - WOW, just WOW. The meat in it is veal and it is the best cannelloni I've ever had in my life. Soft and just the right proportion of sauce. Hands down better than Spasso's chicken cannelloni. 4- Four Cheese Penne - To me this is just another macaroni and cheese dish, but the gorgonzola is really strong, I couldn't eat too much of it but husband loved it. 5- Hot Cocoa dessert drink - not worth it, they didn't put it in a mug, they put it in a glass and was too hot to hold. 6- Caramel Flan - LOVELOVELOVE - if you like flan, you'll love this. And I love flan. 7- Chocolate Mousse Cake - Seemed like it was just barely thawed. Very hard and cold, but not frozen. The service was a bit slow, everyone was polite. Definitely the place for Italians with Argentine employees. There were tables that looked like they were expecting the Godfather to appear at the head. Definitely coming here again and again!

Love this place! They are so good at letting you relax and take your time... really enjoying the whole experience. Family - that is how they treat you - from their demeanor to the food to the yummy wine. It all becomes "the experience" if you do it right. They have a full bar, so sit and warm up with a nice martini and some converstation! Then have them make you a cheese and olive plate to merry your Argetine white wine. Next, you have got to try their carpaccio - by far the best I have ever had! Lights are dimming now and you are starting to unwind.. finding your happy place. In the mood for fish, filet, skirt steak with chimichurri (OMG), lamb, and /or pasta - there is a dish for everyone. If you dont see something that makes your mouth water, ask them to make you what you want............ they are very very accommodating and will bend over backwards to see that you are happy. Their wines are definately reasonable priced - they want you to have a bottle and sit and relax and really enjoy yourself - their way (Italian /Argentine) never rush a meal and enjoy the company you are with! You will see the very young to the very old here. Everyone havinng a great time. They have salsa dancing with lessons (a little extra fun). This place is a great little secret.... that is getting out. Treat yourself to a nice long lunch or dinner.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
